Arrangements following the closure of the Walk-in Centre at the Wilson Hospital
The Walk-In Centre at the Wilson Hospital closes today (31st March 2017) and Merton CCG has issued the following information to help patients find out what out of hours care is available to them as of tomorrow:
GP Extended Access Scheme - The scheme begins on 1 April and aims to boost capacity in local practice across Merton both during core surgery hours from 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday and also during extended hours which is before 8am Monday to Friday, 6.30pm to 8pm Monday to Friday, and on Saturday mornings in some practices. In response to requests from patients they are providing more dedicated children’s slots and also including some advice during these consultations about appropriate use of services for urgent care, and self-care for parents on behalf of their children.
Hub Provision - Delivery will be through two primary care access hubs, one in the east of the borough and one in the west. Delivery will begin on 1st April 2017 from the eastern hub and this will be followed by the hub in the west shortly after. The hubs are not a walk-in service and to book appointments at the hub patients will need to go through their GP practice or call 111. The hubs will only be available for patients registered with a Merton GP practice. The hubs will offer extended access Monday to Friday from 5pm - 9pm and on Saturdays 8am-8pm, with the one in the east also open Sundays 8am -8pm and on bank holidays. Initially the hubs will offer same day access only, with plans to move towards a ‘full practice service’ of same day and routine care from October 2017. The hubs will also provide access to nursing at the weekends from April 1st, for those who need wound care.
