Date: 16 Jan 2018 - 14:00 to 20:00
Are you or a family member living with diabetes or have been told you at risk of diabetes?
Then Public Health would like you to have your voice heard and help them in their future work to tackle diabetes in Merton.
They're holding two information sessions where they will provide an overview of the ‘Diabetes truth’ programme. Both events are the same so you only need to register for one.
It will also be their opportunity to listen to your ideas for the programme and answer any questions that you may have. The sessions will be informal and refreshments will be provided.
Both sessions are taking place at Vestry Hall in Mitcham on Tuesday 16th January 2018 and you only need to attend one of them. Please click a time below to book your place.
Overview of ‘Diabetes truth’ programme
The idea behind the ‘diabetes truth’ programme is for members of Merton Health and Wellbeing Board (senior leaders from the National Health Service, Merton Council and the voluntary sector) to form direct relationships with local people living with or at risk of developing diabetes. Through open two way conversations you will help them gain an insight in to what it is like to live with diabetes, a better understanding of the real issues, true costs and best way to prevent and support people living with diabetes in Merton.
The initial thinking is that each Health and Wellbeing Board member ‘buddies up’ with a ‘Volunteer Buddy’, who is a Merton resident living with diabetes or is at risk of diabetes, with the potential to form a real connection. The intention is that what is learned through the buddying is then fed into the work to tackle diabetes in the future.
The Health and Wellbeing Board members hope this programme will help them get a deeper understanding of the lived experience of diabetes and influence how local agencies might work with people and communities differently in the future.
Date for the diary
- If would like to take part, then Healthwatch Merton will set up a Health and Wellbeing Board meeting on Tuesday 30 January, 3pm – 5pm in Mitcham where you will be able to attend, meet your buddy and start to plan conversations.
